The sinking of the Royal Oak

I’ve been thinking about combining images and text and the complex meanings that can be conveyed. Thoughts collided when going through a box of old letters from my grandfather, written during WW2 – I came across a moving letter from him that told of his escape from the Royal Oak as it was torpedoed in 1939, with the loss of 800 lives. The images I’ve made are composites from his original letter and the captions are taken from the letter.
