I am Andrew Fitzgibbon, a photographer
I live on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales near the small town of Skipton, in the UK – according to the New York Times, the happiest place in the country! I also enjoy travelling to almost anywhere around the globe.
I was once a wanna-be rockstar (and have guitars hanging on the wall to prove it). For many years I earned my crust with a calculator, pen, careful ears and attentive eyes, but I always remembered the words of Ernest Hemingway, telling us to “live the full life of the mind, exhilarated by new ideas, intoxicated by the romance of the unusual.” What my calculator and pen could not give me, my camera did.
Photography helps me to better understand the world, a wonderful and confusing place. I take long walks in the countryside and through city streets, camera in hand and a pint of ale at the end of the route. I look for the company of family, friends and strangers, their stories and personalities shaped by life’s experiences.
I can find humour in almost anything and love the challenge of creating the story of people and places through photographs.
